As you are about to head out of town turn left on to Boreas Pass Road. Continue on Boreas Pass Road for approximately 3.5 miles. At this point the road turns to dirt. Drive about 1 mile through the aspen lined road until it opens up into a large meadow. You will see a log fence on your left. Park here.
Ride description:
This is a great scenic ride up the old railroad grade to Bakers Tank which was a water stop for the old locomotives. From your car ride your bike up the road about 1.6 miles to Bakers Tank (Image 1). Watch for traffic. When you arrive at the tank you will see a rough looking road to your left just before the tank (Image 2). Turn up this road. After a short distance you will see a sign post marking the beginning of the Bakers Tank Trail (Image 3). Ride this single track as it winds up a gradual ascent through the forest. After you have ridden about a mile from the tank you will see a well marked fork in the trail (Image 4). At this point turn left and descend down through the forest. Watch out for roots! There are a couple of significant switch backs, not tight but you will recognize them. After the second switchback the trail begins to widen a bit and almost becomes road like. Soon the trail will intersect with several other trails (Image 5). At this point you will want to veer left at all opportunities. You are now at the top of the small meadow that is just above where you parked and it is only a short distance back to your car, about .2 of a mile. This isn't a long ride but has a reasonable amount of elevation gain and a few technical sections. It is very scenic though, providing many opportunities for incredible views of the Ten Mile Range.
